THE PASCUA YAQUI TRIBE BREAKS GROUND ON TUCSON’S NEWEST GOLF COURSE

Tucson’s Pascua Yaqui Tribe held a ground breaking ceremony today on its newest amenity, an 18-hole, par 72 championship golf course, situated directly south of Casino Del Sol Resort’s AVA Amphitheater. The golf course, named “Sewailo,” meaning “flower world” in the Yaqui language.

But the autograph Notah Begay lended to his first project, Firekeeper Golf Course, came with input, and even authorization, for the design concepts incorporated on virtually every inch of the 240-acre tract.

MAYETTA, KS (May 3, 2011): Sports celebrities Notah Begay III, four-time PGA Tour winner, and national champion basketball coaches Bill Self (University of Kansas) and Roy Williams (University of North Carolina) will be on hand to play in a celebrity skins game along with Randy Towner, head golf professional and general manager of Firekeeper, at the grand opening of the newly constructed Firekeeper Golf Course on May 15. A dedication ceremony is also on tap for the day.

Mayetta, KS – Firekeeper Golf Course, an economic enterprise of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation, is scheduled to open to the public in Spring 2011.
“While the golf course and clubhouse are completed, we feel that it’s in the best interest of the course to wait until the Spring of 2011 before we open it up for public play,” said Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation Chairman Steve Ortiz.
FIRST GROUP OF GOLFERS TEE UP AT FIREKEEPER

It was opening day Friday at a new golf course north of Topeka. The Firekeeper Golf Course north of the Prairie Band Casino had its first group tee off Friday morning. The course plays anywhere from 4700 to 7400 yards depending on where you tee it up. This is Native American Notah Begay's first signature golf course. He was a four-time winner of the PGA Tour and roommate of Tiger Woods at Stanford University.
