PASCUA YAQUI SEWAILO GOLF COURSE NAMED TOP IN ARIZONA
While most golfers would be thrilled just to shoot par, the Pascua Yaqui tribe’s Sewailo Golf Course in Tucson scored an eagle by being named the top course in Arizona. The course is also among the Top 10 in the country, ranked at # 6.
Sewailo Golf Club was named the #1 rated golf course in Arizona according to the 2016 Golf Advisor Rankings. Golf Advisor collects reviews from golfers that have played the golf course and ranks the course on six areas including course condition, course layout, pace of play and value for the money. THE PASCUA YAQUI TRIBE BREAKS GROUND ON TUCSON’S NEWEST GOLF COURSE

Tucson’s Pascua Yaqui Tribe held a ground breaking ceremony today on its newest amenity, an 18-hole, par 72 championship golf course, situated directly south of Casino Del Sol Resort’s AVA Amphitheater. The golf course, named “Sewailo,” meaning “flower world” in the Yaqui language.
Standing near the adjacent tees at Firekeeper Golf Course’s ninth and 11th holes, Notah Begay III recently was describing how the wind would affect play on two holes. A hurting wind on No. 9 would help on the 11th, and vice versa.

But the autograph Notah Begay lended to his first project, Firekeeper Golf Course, came with input, and even authorization, for the design concepts incorporated on virtually every inch of the 240-acre tract.

MAYETTA — The private round of golf Friday that brought Notah Begay back to a new area course he helped design had him smiling before he ever made it to the No. 1 tee box.
For the first time, the ferocious winds he knew could be a factor at Firekeeper Golf Course were howling from a prevailing direction, the southwest.

Mayetta, KS – Firekeeper Golf Course, an economic enterprise of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation, is scheduled to open to the public in Spring 2011.
“While the golf course and clubhouse are completed, we feel that it’s in the best interest of the course to wait until the Spring of 2011 before we open it up for public play,” said Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation Chairman Steve Ortiz.
It was opening day Friday at a new golf course north of Topeka. The Firekeeper Golf Course north of the Prairie Band Casino had its first group tee off Friday morning. The course plays anywhere from 4700 to 7400 yards depending on where you tee it up. This is Native American Notah Begay's first signature golf course. He was a four-time winner of the PGA Tour and roommate of Tiger Woods at Stanford University.
